Soccer, the gym, and a shelf of Lego that keeps growing.
Soccer
I have played soccer since I was a kid in Amman and kept it going through university in Winnipeg and now in Dubai. These days it is mostly small-sided games with friends and people from work, and watching the big matches whenever the time zones cooperate.
I like it for the obvious reasons, and for one less obvious one: a team that plays well together is good practice for running one at work.
Gym
Training is the one fixed part of a week that is otherwise unpredictable. I lift a few times a week and fit conditioning in between, and I treat it the same way I treat work: keep a log, show up, make small progress over a long time.
It is also where I get my thinking done. Most of the ideas that ended up in DLVRAI started somewhere between sets.
Lego
I build Lego. Mostly the big display sets: Star Wars, Technic, Architecture, and the occasional ship. It is the opposite of my working day. There is a box, there are instructions, you do one step at a time, and at the end something finished goes on the shelf.
The current project is the UCS Millennium Falcon, which is taking over the desk one bag at a time. Some of the finished ones from the shelf are below, along with the Falcon as it stands today. Click or tap a piece to bring it to the front.
